1.Sweet Is the Melody
Sweet is the melody, so hard to come by
It's so hard to make every note bend just right
You lay down the hours and leave not one trace
but a tune for the dancing is there in its place
The dance floor's for gliding
not jumping over ponies
where boots and gold bracelets come and meet as they should
It's for celebrating a Friday night romance
forgetting the bad stuff and just feeling good
Sweet is the melody, so hard to come by
It's so hard to make every note bend just right
You lay down the hours and leave not one trace
but a tune for the dancing is there in its place
An arm's just an arm
‘til it's wrapped ‘round a shoulder
looped side by side
they go stepping out together
A note's just a note
‘til you wake from your slumber
and dare to discover the new melody
Sweet is the melody, so hard to come by
It's so hard to make every note bend just right
You lay down the hours and leave not one trace
but a tune for the dancing is there in its place
2.The Dance You Choose
Come on everybody all across the land
Come on everybody it is time to dance
To the music I am playing
The message I'm conveying
Cause everything is flowing from my heart
Come on everybody bring your dancing shoes,
If you'd like to listen I've a song for you
Let's kick up a commotion
From my side of the ocean
For I have got a notion to
CHORUS
Dance to the fiddles in the rhythm of the reels
Dance to the life and the love that you feel
Dance to the song of the one that you love
so true
Oh, life is in the dance you choose
Dance to the fiddles in the rhythm of the reels
Dance to the life and the love that you feel
Dance to the song of the one that you love
so true
Oh, life is in the dance you choose
I will bring to you the sweetest blossom
Bearing precious melody and all
When it's time to dance we far too often
Get wrapped up in the worry of the fall
and I will catch you
Come on everybody all across the land
Come on everybody it is time to dance
Let's keep the rhythm steady
Let's lift the heart that's heavy
Is everybody ready to...
CHORUS
3.Rise Again
When the waves roll on
over the waters
And the oceans cry
We look to our sons and daughters
To explain our lives
As if a child could tell us why
That as sure as the sunrise
As sure as the sea
As sure as the wind in the trees
We rise again
in the faces of our children
We rise again
in the voices of our song
We rise again
in the waves out on the ocean
And then we rise again
When the light goes dark
with the forces of creation
In a stormy sky
We look to reincarnation to
Explain our lives
As if a child could tell us why
As sure as the sunrise
As sure as the sea
As sure as the wind in the trees
We rise again
in the faces of our children
We rise again
in the voices of our song
We rise again
in the waves out on the ocean
And then we rise again
CHORUS (repeat)
4.Moonlight Shadow
The last that ever she saw him,
Carried away by a moonlight shadow.
He passed on worried and warning,
Carried away by a moonlight shadow.
Lost in a riddle that Saturday night,
Far away on the other side.
He was caught in the middle of a desperate fight
And she couldn't find how to push through.
The trees that whisper in the evening,
Carried away by a moonlight shadow.
Sing a song of sorrow and grieving,
Carried away by a moonlight shadow.
All she saw was a silhouette of a gun,
Far away on the other side.
He was shot six times by a man on the run
And she couldn't find how to push through.
CHORUS
I stay, I pray
See you in heaven far away.
I stay, I pray
See you in heaven one day.
Four a.m. in the morning,
Carried away by a moonlight shadow.
I watched your vision forming,
Carried away by a moonlight shadow.
Stars roll slowly in a silvery night,
Far away on the other side.
Will you come to terms with me this night,
And she couldn't find how to push through.
CHORUS
The last that ever she saw him,
Carried away by a moonlight shadow.
He passed on worried and warning,
Carried away by a moonlight shadow.
Caught in the middle of a hundred and five.
The night was heavy and the air was alive,
But she couldn't find how to push through.
5.Over the Rainbow-What a Won
Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
And the dreams that you dream of
once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dream of,
dreams really do come true
Someday I'll wish upon a star, wake up where the clouds are far
behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops,
that's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dare to, oh why, oh why can't I?
Well I see trees of green and red roses too,
I'll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Well I see skies of blue and clouds of white
and the brightness of day
I like the dark
and I think to myself, what a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands saying,
How do you do?
They're really saying, I – I love you
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow,
they'll learn much more than we'll know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Someday I'll wish upon a star, wake up where the clouds are far
behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops,
that's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
And the dreams that you dare to, oh why, oh why can't I?
6.Out of the Woods
I wish you out of the woods
and into the picture with me
I wish you over the moon
come out of the question and be
If this is going to
run round in my head
I might as well be dreaming
run round in my head
I rollercoaster for you
time out mind
must be heavenly
it's all enchanted and wild
just like my heart said
'twas was going to be
If this is going to
run round in my head
I might as well be dreaming
run round in my head
If this is going to
run round in my head
I might as well be dreaming
run round in my head
I wish you out of the woods
and into the picture with me
I wish you over the moon
come out of the question and be
If this is going to
run round in my head
I might as well be dreaming
run round in my head
If this is going to
run round in my head
I might as well be dreaming
run round in my head
7.Driftwood
Everything is open
Nothing's set in stone
Rivers turn to oceans
Oceans tide you home
Home is where the heart is
But your heart had to roam
Drifting over bridges
Never to return
Watching bridges burn
You're driftwood floating underwater
Breaking into pieces, pieces, pieces
Just driftwood, hollow and of no use
Waterfalls will find you, bind you, grind you
Nobody's an island
Everyone had to go
Pillars turn to butter
Butterflying low
Low is where your heart is
But your heart has to grow
Drifting under bridges
Never with the flow
And you really didn't think it would happen
But it really is the end of the line
So I'm sorry that you've turned to driftwood
But you've been drifting for a long, long time
Everywhere there's trouble
Nowhere's safe to go
Pushes turn to shovels
Shovelling the snow
Frozen you have chosen
The path you wish to go
Drifting now forever
And forever more
Until you reach your shore
You're driftwood floating underwater
Breaking into pieces, pieces, pieces
Just driftwood, hollow and of no use
Waterfalls will find you, bind you, grind you
And you really didn't think it would happen
But it really is the end of the line
So I'm sorry that you've turned to driftwood
But you've been drifting for a long, long time
You've been drifting, for a long, long time
Drifting for a long, long time
8.Some Days
Some days I feel sad and lonely
some days I feel fine…
Some days the clock just ticks too slowly
and I wish away my time.
I wish away my time
when you come to me
I realize how wonderful my life can be.
With you… You and me.
Some days bounce like a basketball
some days make me blue.
Some days I stare out through my window
and wonder what the world will do.
I wonder what the world will do…
And when I wake at night
the darkness closes in.
My heart takes fright.
You remind me that I'm alright.
Some days I think I just fell from the sky.
Some days I have to ask the question “why?”
But everyday I try…
Some days I am virtuous,
but some days I'm just bad.
Some days I just can't get enough
of the sweetest things I ever had.
The sweetest things I ever had.
But when you telephone,
I realize that I am never really all alone
And dream that I am home, I am home,
I am home…
9.Once in Every Life
Once in every life
love should leave you without a choice
Where the only thing right
is to follow that still small voice
Once in every day
it should take your breath away
Once upon a time
should happen once in every life
Once you give it your heart
without holding back your soul
You can dance in the dark
cause you're never there alone
Once in every hour
you should feel that healing power
Once upon a time
should happen once in every life
Once it's stronger than you
There's nothin' else you can do
You stop asking why, just let yourself fly
Once in every life
love should feel so good you cry
And your only release
is releasing three small words
Once you hear them out loud
you feel heaven coming down
Once upon a time
should happen once in every life
Once upon a time
should happen once in every life
10.Love Is So Rare
Like a tiny seed firmly in the soil
Nurtured with a love I think so rare
Given room to breathe, given time to see
It's now so clear to me
You were there, you were there
When I was just a flower afraid out in the forest
Hiding from the shadows all alone
I knew you'd be along, my faith in you was strong
Like our favourite song
To lead me home, you led me home
And with each changing season
I grow a little stronger
Rising up to touch the open sky
And if I gave you a reason
not to hold me any longer
You gave me a thousand reasons why
You are my steady oak standing tall and strong
Protecting me with everything you have
And I know deep inside
I would not have survived
Without you by my side
Oh and I .... I love you dad
11.Getting Dark Again
There's a piper in the corner.
There's a dancer on the floor
Friends around the table,
there's one who calls for more
And there's Gaelic in the fiddle
like the Gaelic in the Glen
And the songs take on new meaning boys
It's getting dark again
CHORUS
Getting dark again
Getting dark again
For the second time since we got up
It's getting dark again
There was tea and tunes this morning
or was it yesterday
When friends and fiddles gathered
where friends and fiddles played
There were lots of those were good times
and do you remember when
But that was jigs and reels ago
Now it's getting dark again
CHORUS
Now if any of you were slighted by the deeds that now are done
By the fellowship of music and the fantasy of fun
Well we'd like to say we're sorry
shed a tear for you but then
We haven't got the time right now ‘cause
It's getting dark again
CHORUS
There's a piper in the corner.
There's a dancer on the floor
Friends around the table,
there's one who calls for more
And there's Gaelic in the fiddle
like the Gaelic in the Glen
And the songs take on new meaning boys
She's getting dark again
CHORUS
And the songs take on new meaning boys
It's getting dark again
12.To Say Goodbye to You
Wish I could whistle down the Northern Lights
And send them dancing all across the night
Maybe then when all the sky was blazing
Maybe then I'd feel you somewhere
gazing at a star,
And you could feel me too
as I say goodbye to you
It breaks my heart in two, to say goodbye to you
Wish time could turn us back to yesterday
The gods above would look the other way
Maybe then we still could laugh together
Maybe then it could be spring forever and a day
But I must face the truth and say goodbye to you
It breaks my heart in two, to say goodbye to you
Wish I could whistle down the Northern Lights
And send them dancing all across the night
Maybe then in my memories for saving
One last time you're on the hill waving from afar
One last glance or two and I'll say goodbye to you
It breaks my heart in two, to say goodbye to you
13.The Island
Over an ocean and over a sea
Beyond these great waters, oh what do I see?
I see the great mountains
climb from the coastline
The hills of Cape Breton, this new home of mine
Oh they come from the countries all over the world
To hack at the forest, to plow the land down
Fishermen, farmers and sailors all come
To clear for the future this pioneer ground
CHORUS
We are an island, a rock in a stream
We are a people as proud as there's been
In soft summer breeze or in wild winter winds
The home of our hearts, Cape Breton
Over the rooftops and over the trees
Within these new townships, oh what do I see?
I see the black pitheads, the coal-wheels are turning
The smokestacks are belching and the blast furnace burning
Oh the sweat on the back is no joy to behold
In the heat of the steel plant or mining the coal
And the foreign-owned companies
force us to fight
For our survival and for our rights
CHORUS
Over the highways and over the roads
Over the causeway, stories are told
They tell of the coming and the going away
The cities of America draw me away
Ah the companies come, the companies go
And the ways of the world we may never know
We'll follow the footsteps of those on their way
And we'll ask for the right to leave or to stay
CHORUS
14.The Gift
A poor orphan girl named Maria
Was walking to market one day
She stopped for to rest by the roadside
Where a bird with a broken wing lay
A few moments passed till she saw it
For its feathers were covered with sand
And soon cleaned and wrapped it was traveling
In the warmth of Maria's small hand
She happily gave her last peso
On a cage made of rushes and twine
She fed it loose corn from the market
And watched it grow stronger with time
Now the gift-giving service was coming
And the church shone with tinsel and light
And all of the townfolk brought presents
To lay by the manger that night
There where diamonds, incense and perfume
And packages fit for a king
But for one ragged bird in a small cage
Maria had nothing to bring
She waited till just before midnight
So no one would see her go in
And crying she knelt by the manger
For her gift was unworthy of him
Then a voice spoke to her through the darkness
“Maria, what brings you to me?
If the bird in the cage is your offering
Open the door, let me see”
So she trembled, she did as he asked her
And out of the cage the bird flew
Soaring up into the rafters
On a wing that had healed good as new
Just then the midnight bells rang out
And the little bird started to sing
A song that no words could recapture
For its beauty was fit for a king
Now Maria felt blessed just to listen
To that cascade of notes sweet and long
As her offering was lifted to heaven
By the very first nightingale's song
